Stage 3 - Baker City Downtown Criterium

I wasn’t sure Baker City would still be there a year on, last year most of the downtown looked like it was closed. A year on and the shops were open, people were out and the same trench on turn 2 was there.

A standard L shaped crit with a bunch of climbers and a handful of sprinter hacks like me was more or less uneventful until a crash with 4 to go. More like 2 crashes simultaneously, not sure how it happened, don’t care, but one or two ended up with trips to ER - thats a pity.

I flatted again! Two in two road stages, and my first two of the season. A change, fortunately the neutral had I-Ti Luxury this time. A move looked to be forming just a I rejoined the bunch, so went for it, hard with the tailwind back straight and even harder into the headwind finishing straight to bridge up and figured the bunch would ease up a little into the headwind. No such luck so it came down to the big gallop.

We were 10 or more across the road, I left it late, and ended 8th.

Bugger.

    Hey Dude-
Found your site. Good to read your reports, sorry about the breakage. Long way to go to suffer mechanicals–and that’s coming from somebody who knows. Might join you in the fun next year. I love stage racing and that awful feeling in the legs.

Thanks for looking - the memory is weak, the legs are weaker, more to come as I remember it!
