www.cyclingnews.com presents the 94th Tour de France
Has there ever been anything more sickening in sport than a cheat? Fixing your bike with speed inducing components and weight saving gadgets is nothing. The cycling body has taken more time to fix the drug issue than it did to tell Graeme Obree that he couldn’t ride his part-laundromat-part-bike in the World Hour Record attempt. Now that Vino is done for, and lets face it, who didn’t suspect him after the TT and yesterday’s stage win, where do we go next?
People inside will tell you that we’re winning the war on the cheats because they’re detected, caught and banned much quicker… This is too much like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. Next argument? We’re doing that much better than all the other sports, most of which haven’t even acknowledged there is a drug-taking problem… What a feeble argument, so we’re better because some of our cheats are caught, whereas none of their cheats are caught? Next argument? Hmmm…
Cycling is in the midst of yet another let down. Like I said last week, many racers progress because of their natural talent, but that isn’t enough, so they start using drugs to get better every year. Maybe this years Le Tour and the ASO could give the Maillot Jaune to the 20th placed person, in fact that idea is better than giving drugs tests or anything else. Maybe we’ll still have a cheat winning Le Tour, but at least he won’t have cheated as much. You don’t like that idea, I can tell already. Yeah, its a weak one for me too, but I like it better than the arguments that our sport is better than their sport because we test for drugs cheats.
As for Vino, he’s abused my trust, or rather I had it confirmed that he has abused my trust. Either way, he’s better off retiring and coming back as the next saviour of cycling, just like Riis, full of apologies. So long Vino, the good times you showed were great, but you’re still a cheating b****rd and you’ve hurt my sport, now leave.

I get much more satisfaction out of seeing who won what on the local scene than I do on the international scene. Knowing the racers in the area and seeing what they can achieve has always been more tangible for me. I also believe that the local scene is clean. I can’t say that for the pro peloton. They are all doped and have been for a long time and that includes Armstrong. The dopehead dopers dope because they are humanbeings with a greediness problem. The money is there and for many it’s a monkey trap.
