Mex & Ruth teamed up this weekend. First at Henleyville then at Chico.
Riding in her first W4 race, Ruth, was very nervous and wanted to make sure she didn’t get dropped. Get dropped? She took 7th! Mex took 5th to end her first season with 28 races and more than enough points to upgrade to the 3’s. I’m so proud of them both, but Ruth’s finish and fighting her sore hip, plus a pain in her back because she’s not ridden enough yet. I couldn’t stop smiling all the way home.
Yes, we went home after Henleyville, and Sunday we went upto Chico for the 8:50am W3/4 crit. The team was out again, with Mex & Ruth excited after their results on Saturday. It was fine and dry as we left home at 4:30am, but was raining by the time we got to Chico. A few were undecided about racing, but there was still a good sized field for an early start, late season crit.
It looked as though they were taking it easy the first couple of laps, but that didn’t last long, with Hanan and Lauraleen nuking it out, followed by Laurie and a chase group. The chase wasn’t cohesive, Ruth got shelled along with a handful of others and with someone sitting in the chase didn’t bring the group back.
Mex took 7th, the sit in sprinter wasn’t much better. Ruth took 10th and took home $20 - her first winnings. Thats great, thanks to VP & Chico for putting on two great events.

You know what, it always makes such a huge difference to me when the prices go 10 deep in the W 4’s, even if it is only a water bottle. It just makes you feel that much more appreciated for having turned up.

That was a good race to watch, not often you see those kind of attacks in the w3/4 races, at least the ones I’ve seen. I agree the money helps as well. All the money at that Crit was great!
