On Saturday me and Mex had a really cool outing to Lombardi’s Sports - not only because they’re the team sponsor shop, but also its just a great place to go… you should check it out… they even have a parking lot to make it easy to get all your goodies into your car directly below the shop.
Anyway, Louis Garneau, fine cycling garment provider and key sponsor of the team (see a pattern?) were holding a presentation of shoes & helmets to the Bouygues Telecom team ahead of the ToC. I took my phone along and snapped away all night long. I was chatting to Monsieur Marketing Garneau and so the story goes, Monsieur TV liked our team kit so much that he wanted to ride in it. Why wouldn’t he? It is the best kit in NorCal.
I made what I thought was a very generous offer that Monsieur TV was considering for a while:
“I will give you my kit, if you give me your legs and lungs”
There was much consideration and discussion had, all of it in French.
Being the typical Englishman and knowing full well that no Frenchman would ever understand English, I boasted that they weren’t good enough to wear such a fine kit as ours.
After all the consideration though, Monsieur TV stood up, gave me a Gallic shrug and started walking out…
“Good luck”, I called after them as they left the store. “Thank you”, came the reply…
Oops, I guess they did speak English after all. Nevermind, my legs will have to carry me around Snelling on Saturday.
