I’ve never gone well at Snelling, its usually been my first race of the season and its always cold and windy; this year I started out with a couple of the EB crits and Cherry Pie. Naturally I expected a better performance; sure it was still cold, and the wind got worse as the day went on.
The M35+ race was surely going to be the big teams nuking it out, Morgan Stanley, EMC, Specialized & Sierra Nevada all had big teams. The ususal suspects were there and you know they’re going strong. Lap 1 continued the neutral roll-out with a calm pace for almost the first complete lap. All change on lap 2 with a group rolling off the front as soon as we came through the finish. The attack pace wasn’t high but the gap to about 10 others increased quickly down the long road to the feed zone. By the time of the Foothills RR finish though we were all back together.
I can’t be bothered even writing what went on. There were two groups got away and the laughing group was left to do just that.
I finished with a broken Look cleat on my left shoe and didn’t compete in the bunch sprint.
Roll on warmer weather, increasing self-confidence and a better perspective.
