Ruth has joined the NorCal High School MTB league as part of Contra Costa Composite Team lead by Lesley Jensen. Lesley has a lot of time for the kids on the team and has given a lot of her knowledge, training and tactics to the team. All of the kids are really lucky to have such a great role-model.
As Lesley has been preparing the kids for this weekends first race at Fort Ord, I thought I’d give a little insight into the racing and my favourite cycling adage; “Its not the strongest rider, but the smartest rider that wins!”. I did a search for “strong rider smart rider” in the hope of finding some links to help prove my point…
At #30 is an old article about Big Mig from the NY Times - what a great resource, a pearl. This kind of reporting is needed so much today, the bare facts and the plain talk. We need the kids to get as much information as possible and to learn from our mistakes and their own. Of course, my favourite books; The Rider by Tim Krabbe and Cycle Racing by Frank Westell and Ken Evans (that includes a great picture of the Milk Race going through the Trough of Bowland in northern England - a regular Sunday ride when I was a junior).
This post got well off topic - too much nostalgia. Sorry.
